Self Storage Success For Family Business

As the self storage industry grows, companies need ways to keep up with higher demand—and many are turning to Mr Box for their container needs. St. Johns Self Storage in Leicester is one of those companies, as detailed by a feature article in The Mover magazine.

The company at first considered buying old shipping containers from random sources, but, as owner Russell Mac explains in the article, “After looking at various suppliers we came upon Mr Box in Ipswich and were impressed with the quality of their units, especially the ventilation system that helps keep everything dry.”

St. Johns started out with an order for ten 20-foot units, which were quickly filled by new customers. Today, two-and-a-half years into its existence, the company uses 150 different units. The units’ sizes range from 20 to 40 feet, and some are subdivided to create smaller compartments.

Owing in part to that sizing versatility, St. Johns now has a huge variety of clients, including “removals companies needing additional temporary storage, private individuals wanting to store their ‘treasured possessions’ and even car enthusiasts needing extra garage space to keep their classic cars.”

It’s not just the unit sizes that are flexible: St. Johns uses month-to-month agreements rather than longer deals, to give customers more freedom in how long they rent. As Mac puts it, customers “can move out anytime they want to.” The units at St. Johns have fixed rates, which are available on their website.

Beyond boasting myriad unit sizes and flexible rental arrangements, St. Johns also attracts customers by investing heavily in security, including a closed-circuit TV system and an electronic entry/exit mechanism. Account information is also electronic: St. Johns’ system monitors payments and handles invoicing.

Which is a good thing, because if Mac gets his way, there will be much more payment information to handle as the company grows: “We’ve plenty of room for more containers and it seems there’s no shortage of customers, so we’re looking forward to expanding the business during the next few years.”
